Shepherd grew up on a dairy farm near Wellsford, and his mechanical aptitude presented at an early age – he learned to weld at eight. He later trained as an electrical engineer, but his life-long passion for all things mechanical – and internal combustion engines in particular – provided a solid foundation for his inventions.

Shaun grew up in central Auckland. He has a strong background in large scale enterprise systems development and is a expert in the area of modelling and model driven development software methodologies.
